Help us develop our role in Addressing Health Inequalities

28 Feb 2023

Vice-President and Chancellor, Professor Nancy Rothwell to launch event to showcase research and bring colleagues together on Tuesday, 28 March – sign up now

Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell

Our University is developing its role in addressing Health Inequalities and we want researchers to join the conversation – and the work we’re planning.

Following her Viewpoint blog to launch the project, Professor Dame Nicky Cullum is inviting colleagues to the first town hall event focusing on this area and how we can play an important role.

Our President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell will launch the event on Tuesday, 28 March, 9.30am – 3pm, in the Schuster building on Brunswick Street.

This event – open to colleagues from all three Faculties, institutes and cultural institutions and fostering lively discussions and new collaborations and relationships across the University – will:

  • Showcase the breadth and scope of our University’s activity around addressing health inequalities
  • Begin refining research themes, ahead of holding themed workshops as the next step
  • Provide in-person networking opportunities for internal colleagues

Addressing Health Inequalities is a new strategic research priority area for the University, as Nicky explains: “There is already much research related to health inequalities thriving here. We have a wealth of expertise, to tackle not only medical challenges, but the underlying socio-economic and environmental causes of inequalities and their impacts.

“As a University with social responsibility at its core, we have a duty to address these challenges and I am looking forward to this and to working with colleagues who can truly make a difference.”

Please note, we’re expecting high demand for this town hall event, and the lecture theatre capacity is 200. We’ll operate a waiting list for the event once all tickets have sold out on Eventbrite. In addition, talks will be recorded and a virtual poster booklet will be available following the event.

Further events will be arranged as we take forward ‘addressing health inequalities’ as a strategic research priority for our University.
