Free inter-campus travel on 147 bus consultation
19 Jan 2023
We'd like to hear your views and feedback
The 147 bus is a public service run by Stagecoach. The University currently finances travel on this route for staff and students to travel free-of-charge between Sackville Street, North Campus and the Students’ Union on Oxford Road. We understand many people use this service for work and study and also as part of longer commuting journeys.
Following the relocation of 6,000 students, along with 2,000 colleagues and Postgraduate Researchers from the North Campus to the new home of Engineering and Materials on Booth St East (Engineering Building A and B), we recognise that there is less footfall between areas of campus serviced by the 147 bus route. It is for this reason that we are considering the withdrawal of the free service later this year.
We appreciate that important parts of our community remain on North Campus including the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (MIB) and Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), as well as some teaching activity although this is significantly reduced. Ahead of any decision we want to hear from colleagues and students to understand the impact withdrawing free travel on this service may have.
Have your say
We want to hear your views on:
- How the proposed withdrawal of free inter-campus travel on the 147 bus could impact you;
- Any additional information you think we need to consider.
By completing our short survey we will gain a better understanding of the impact of this proposal and it will inform the Equality Impact Assessment. This will be presented, alongside other data, for the University to consider. Results will be communicated early Spring.
