Double win at Manchester Culture Awards
01 Dec 2022
Our Museum and former Chancellor Lemn Sissay were announced as winners at an award ceremony in Manchester on 24 November
Manchester Museum won best Environmental Sustainability Project at the Manchester Culture Awards 2022 for their Roots and Branches initiative.
Roots and Branches is an ambitious, environmentally-driven partnership led by Manchester Museum in collaboration with Museum Development North West and the Carbon Literacy Trust.
It is increasingly difficult to ignore the inequalities in our society, including those created by the climate crisis, and this unique collaboration is passionate about the role that museums can and should play in addressing this.
Over two years, Roots and Branches will see the roll-out of Carbon Literacy training to 1,500 individuals across the country, accelerating the museum sector’s ability to respond to the climate crisis.

And there was a special recognition award for our former Chancellor and Honorary Professor of Creative Writing Lemn Sissay, who got a standing ovation from guests at the ceremony.
