Manchester Access Programme celebrates its 2022 cohort
The Manchester Access Programme (MAP) hosted its first in-person Celebration Evening since 2019 on Monday, 21 November.
Students, their supporters, and Undergraduate Access Scholarship donors all came together to celebrate the students' achievements at Whitworth Hall.
MAP is the University’s flagship post-16 programme for students who live or study in Greater Manchester. Students must complete and pass a number of compulsory modules, including an Academic Assignment in order to be eligible for the MAP benefits. Benefits of MAP include a two-grade differential offer at The University of Manchester*, and an Undergraduate Access Scholarship of £1000 a year if students come to The University of Manchester.**
The evening started with a keynote speech from Professor Judy Williams, Associate Vice President for Teaching and Learning, congratulating the students on all they had achieved during the programme.
Haider Khokhar, MAP 2008 graduate, and Tech Startup Founder at Director and Product Management talked about MAP in his path to success, and about the importance of saying ‘yes’ to opportunities that come your way.
Faryal Aqa, MAP Graduate, Law Graduate and current Access and Success Graduate Intern, spoke very movingly about how MAP helped her develop self-confidence and defy her teachers’ lack of belief in her abilities.
Map Graduate Charlotte Mellor, a Manchester Cancer Research Centre PhD student, MAP Tutor, and Widening Participation Fellow at the University, talked about her experiences on MAP and how they contributed to her success today.
The University is now recruiting for the Manchester Access Programme 2023 cohort.
