University car park charges - update
24 Jul 2009
New arrangements for part-time, casual and retired staff
Following the recent communication to staff regarding changes to car park charges, we are now pleased to confirm the new arrangements for part-time, casual and retired staff. A brief note on the University Car Share Scheme is also included.
Car Park Permits for Part-Time Staff / Casual Users
University staff working up to three days per week (a maximum of 21 hours) will qualify for a part-time permit in the form of a card issued via the Permit Office. The permit allows 21 entries per card into the car parks. The holder will be entitled to a maximum seven cards per year. Anyone working more than three days per week does not qualify for this permit and will require a full time car park permit as previously advised. Staff that normally use public transport but whom, on occasion, may need to travel to work by car and would require the use of University car parks, will also be able to take advantage of the scheme for part-time staff.
Permits will be available from the Permit Office at a cost of £26.25 per card, payable by cheque only.
Anyone who wishes to apply for a part-time/casual user permit, please contact the Permit Office on:
Retired Staff
Retired members of staff are also entitled to the above facility. However, for retired staff who attend the University more than three days per week, the annual cost will be £240.00 per permit, payable by cheque.
Car Share
Members of staff at the University can take advantage of a car share facility that aims to reduce the number of car journeys to the University. The current scheme only involves University staff; once a new Higher Education Partnership Travel Plan Co-ordinator is appointed, the car share system will be fully reviewed to encompass the whole of the Higher Education Precinct Partnership that includes Manchester Metropolitan University, RNCM, Central Manchester and Manchester Children's NHS Trust. It is hoped that the wider scheme will be available by the end of 2007.
Scheme Users
Two or more users will be issued with a single 'Car Share' permit at a total cost of £240.00 per annum, deducted from salary at £20.00 per month from the main applicant.
Where people car share, they will each supply their details and that of their vehicles. This will allow alternating car use or differing car use during holidays, illness etc. Only one vehicle can be used at any one time by the car sharers.
Existing car sharers will be contacted by the Car Park Permit Office to inform them directly of changes.
