International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
25 Nov 2022
We believe that bullying, harassment, and discrimination is never okay
Today, we will be lighting up the Academy building in orange to mark the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which is part of the United Nations Secretary General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign.
Globally, the UN reports that 1 in 3 women and girls will or have experienced physical or sexual violence. This is around 736 million women worldwide.
The campaign aims to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence through raising awareness, increasing advocacy and creating space for discussion around solutions.
Support at the University
We believe that bullying, harassment, and discrimination is never okay. No-one on our campus or in our surrounding communities should be treated badly.
We offer a number of ways to report bullying, harassment and discrimination:
- Report and Support
- Never OK campaign, a collaboration between The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and The University of Salford, which aims to promote a zero-tolerance environment and culture towards sexual harassment and violence.
- SafeZone App designed to help keep you safe and give you extra peace of mind across campuses in the city
Our staff network groups such as Women@Manchester are also available to support any member of our University community.
