Share your views for International Men’s Day

07 Nov 2022

Sign up for International Men's Day focus group

We are inviting our colleagues who identify as men to share their views and experiences on being part of our University community in an upcoming focus group.

The session will take place around International Men’s Day (19 November)

The focus group is part of a series of sessions which will form an essential part of the University’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and our EDI chartermarks. The University is part of the Athena Swan charter, which supports progress on gender equality and recognises gender as a spectrum. This session forms part of our gender equality work.

Please note: sessions with other groups, including women and trans and non-binary staff and students, as well as open call sessions will be running November 2022-March 2023.

An important feature of all chartermarks is hearing directly from staff and students from groups with different protected characteristics. Listening and consulting colleagues was a key feature in the development of the new EDI strategy, and we are committed to continuing with this approach.

The views we gather through these sessions are vital to the chartermarks - they will help us to better understand where the University is doing well with EDI, where there are ongoing challenges and will feed into the actions plans we develop to ensure that the University is a great place of work and study for all its staff and students. See the focus group FAQs for further information.

Get involved

This session is open to those who identify as men in any area or role at the University. Views shared will be handled in a respectful, confidential manner and will inform our Athena Swan submission in 2023.

The session is taking place on-campus on Tuesday, 22 November, 1.00-2.30pm. Places are limited so colleagues are encouraged to book their place early. Register for a place.

International Men’s Day

On 19 November, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities, highlighting positive role models and raising awareness of men’s wellbeing.

We encourage our male colleagues – alongside our wider University community- to be mindful of their health and wellbeing and make use of the array of resources and opportunities available. Find out more about staff wellbeing.
