University GP service pilot launched
22 Sep 2022
Colleagues and students are now able to visit a University GP branch surgery
Our University has partnered with the Robert Darbishire GP Practice (also known as Better Health Manchester) to pilot a University GP surgery in the heart of our campus from Crawford House. Under the year-long pilot, colleagues can register with the Robert Darbishire GP practice. Once registered, you will be able to telephone the practice on 0161 225 6699 for an appointment with a GP or Practice Nurse. If an in-person appointment is needed, this can be offered on the fourth floor of Crawford House.
This service is also available to our students to encourage them to register with a GP. It will enable cross-referral for students who register to access other services from Campus Life and through to NHS specialist services if needed.
Our Occupational Health Service and the University GP Service has also teamed up to provide a registration service and Covid-19 information point for students on Oxford Road throughout Welcome 2022. We have also collaborated with the local NHS Vaccination Team during Welcome to offer a Covid-19 pop-up vaccination facility on campus.
Peter Connolly, Head of Occupational Health Services, said: “Through the pilot we will develop a more holistic approach to support and care for both our students and staff. We plan to work in partnership in a number of ways, including with colleagues from our Counselling and Mental Health Service and Disability Advisory and Support Service. ”
The Robert Darbishire GP Practice is a social enterprise and a not-for-profit organisation. The pilot launched on Monday, 5 September and will run for the full 2022-23 academic year.
