Making connections at our PGR family day

PGR parents and carers came together with their children to share experiences and talk about their research
On Thursday, 28 July, our first PGR family day was hosted in the Grand Hall of the Whitworth.
It was a great opportunity for our PGRs to come together and network, and share experiences of combining study and home life. Many brought their children along to learn a bit more about their research and campus life, while also taking part in some fun activities.
Those that attended found it an invaluable, informal way to meet and talk about opportunities and challenges, and stressed the importance of peer support groups for PGRs.
One commented: “What a brilliant event, my five-year old was able to understand what I do as a University researcher. Thank you Dr Perpetual for an amazing planned event for PGR parents and their children.”
Event organiser Dr Perpetual Idehen said: “I am so pleased our PGRs enjoyed our first family day. It’s important for them and their families to feel part of our University community. I hope this will be the first of many events we can organise.”
