Professor Wendy R Flavell receives Rivière Prize for 2021

Congratulations to Professor Wendy Flavell, who won the Rivière Prize for 2021, which was formally awarded to her at the UK Surface Analysis Forum conference, held recently in the Royce Hub

Wendy is only the second woman to win the Award, which was given for her contribution to the study, analysis and understanding of the nanoscale physics and surface chemistry of quantum dots for fuel cell and photovoltaic applications. The presentation had been delayed due to the pandemic.

Wendy is is Professor of Surface Physics in the Photon Physics Group and Deputy Head of School in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The award recognises that Wendy provides stimulus, guidance, and encouragement to researchers across all disciplines and is both a role model and active promoter of women in science. She promotes the use and development of surface analysis through leadership in numerous national and international research committees. She has been quick to recognise and investigate the potential of new methods and is leading the development of lab-based HAXPES instrumentation in the UK.

The award is presented to researchers whose work has had a major impact on other researchers in the field of surface analysis. It is intended as a recognition of a long-term activity which does not normally attract awards, and is named after John Rivière, the founding Chairman of the UKESCA Users Group (latterly the UK Surface Analysis Forum).
