Upgrade to Research Explorer portal and researcher profiles
21 Sep 2022
An opportunity to preview the upcoming upgrade to the Research Explorer portal and give us your thoughts
To ensure we continue to showcase the broad range of our research activities and outputs, a Research Lifecycle Programme project (project E) is underway to upgrade Research Explorer, the University’s platform for researcher and PGR student profiles.
The upgrade will ensure we are able to continue to provide a supported platform for users, which is easily discoverable and accessible to the public, potential collaborators and partners and prospective students. On average Research Explorer receives in excess of half a million page views a month with around 200,000 requests for publication data alone.
The upgrade will also introduce some new features to promote our research. These include the ability to affiliate work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals; the introduction of Fingerprinting, which autogenerates weighted searchable keyword expertise terms; a new image gallery and the ability to embed video content on publications.
To ensure the upgrade meets the needs of researchers, the project team has worked closely with a group of academic colleagues across all three faculties and also with teams in Professional Services including the Library, RBE, Communications and Marketing and IT Services.
Before the upgrade goes live later in the year, we are providing a preview of the changes to all staff and PGR students with a current profile in Research Explorer over the summer. Researchers will be able to view their new profile alongside their existing profile, as well as access a range of updated training materials.
Details of how to access the preview have been circulated and we would appreciate it if you could encourage your Academic and PGR teams to take part.
