Hallsworth Conference: 'War and our World' 19-21 July 2007

Early bird registration available to Manchester staff until 6 July

One of the most pressing issues of our time is the changing nature and consequences of war. The international conference, War and our World, provides an opportunity to address this recurrent feature of human society.
Plenary speakers include:

  • Abdel-Rahman Ghandour, UNICEF in the Middle East; 
  • Joanna Bourke, Professor of History at Birkbeck College; 
  • Rony Brauman, former President of Medecins Sans Frontieres; 
  • Urvashi Butalia, Feminist, activist and historian; 
  • Marianne Elliot, Professor and Director of the Institute of Irish Studies at the University of Liverpool; 
  • Anatol Lieven, Senior Research Fellow at the public policy institute, New American Foundation, Washington DC; 
  • Chairs: Anna Ford, Co-Chancellor and Admiral Sir John Kerr, Pro-Chancellor, The University of Manchester.

The conference is staged in partnership with the AHRC In Place of War project with a performance event in the John Thaw Studio on 18 July, with Passion Pit & Theatre Tours International whose World Premiere of 'Child of Biafra' at the Contact Theatre will be peformed on 19 July with a discussion panel to follow, and the Imperial War Museum North, where a drinks reception will be held on the final day.

Manchester staff can register at the early bird rate (75 day rate; 185 for three days) until 6 July.
