Deadline extended for Inclusive Advocacy Programme

03 May 2022

The programme connects senior research leaders to talented research staff for a 12-month period

Applications are welcome to the Inclusive Advocacy Programme which is open to all research staff with a focus on supporting the career advancement of researchers from under-represented groups.

The deadline to apply has been extended to Friday, 13 May.

The programme connects senior research leaders (advocates) to talented research staff (participants) for a 12-month period.

Advocates will ensure the participant receives growth opportunities and access to useful networks, to drive forward their research and to enable career advancement.

Training is provided for both advocates and participants and will take place on Zoom 10.00am – 12.00pm on Monday, 23 May. This will be accompanied by a toolkit.

Advocacy is an enhanced approach to mentoring in that the advocate may help the participant envision and plan their next position but they will also open doors and introduce opportunities for the participant to have exposure to a higher-level audience so they can demonstrate their abilities.

The aim in the long-term is to increase diversity throughout our research career pipeline and promote inclusivity within our research culture.

Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research, says “This is an important Wellcome-funded initiative which helps us to support the career development of our researchers and to continue the diversification of our research workforce.  The support, perspective and connections of senior colleagues is a valuable contribution for enabling research and career success. I am sure this programme will be a rewarding learning experience for both our research leaders and our talented early career researchers.”
