NEW dates for Osteoporosis Tests
25 May 2007
Get your bone density checked on 3 and 4 July
Due to the high demand for Osteoporosis tests SPORT is hosting a further two dates for bone density testing at Sugden Sports Centre on Tuesday 3 July and Wednesday 4 July. We expect this to be a very popular event so book early to secure a slot.
Why get your bone density checked?
Osteoporosis literally means "Porous Bones". It occurs when the rate of bone renewal does not match the rate of breakdown, eventually resulting in weak, brittle bones. Sufferers generally do not realise they have the condition until they break a bone, by which time it is too late for them to have the most effective treatment.
In the UK, one in two women and one in five men over the age of 50 have osteoporosis; however, their condition is generally as a result of a lifetime's failure to take preventative action. In fact, the progression to osteoporosis generally begins in the early twenties.
More women die each year from osteoporosis than die from breast cancer. This is a frightening and unnecessary statistic for a condition that is both preventable and treatable.
SPORT is hosting a day of bone density screening and is pleased to offer staff this test at the reduced rate of £20 (normal prices range from £37.50 to £50 depending on the company). Payments should be made on the day by cash or cheque only.
Along with your results, you will receive an information pack and nutrition and lifestyle advice to enable you to safeguard yourself against the condition ensuring you have strong and healthy bones for life.
Appointments are available between 9am and 5pm on 3 and 4 July 2007. If you would like to book a test, send an email, indicating your preferred date and time, to:
- Tracey Hunt at t.hunt@chester.ac.uk
The test will take place at the Sugden Sports Centre, 114 Grosvenor Street.
If you have any questions specifically relating to the test, please call:
- Tracey or Isobel on 07951 152172
Remember - osteoporosis is a preventable and treatable disease.
