Writing for The Conversation

20 Apr 2022

Share your research with a wider audience

Are you an academic, researcher or PhD candidate who would like to build a media profile and take your research to a global public audience by writing for The Conversation?

Then why not join one of the University’s next writing workshops with editors from The Conversation. These will be on:

These sessions are aimed at academics and researchers who want to find out more about writing for the platform. The session editor will explain how The Conversation works, its origins and aims and the benefits of writing for the public. The workshop content will include:

  • Learning how to consider the news potential of your area of research and expertise
  • How to look for story hooks and angles from the news
  • How to write a quality story pitch to section editors, and other advice

Since joining The Conversation in 2017, 285 of our academics have written 425 articles for the platform generating 12million reads across numerous other news sites and platforms. These include Newsweek, The Washington Post, and the World Economic Forum (some articles have even been included in Parliamentary briefings). So why not join them?

The outlet is especially looking for authors from more diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups, so if you fall under these categories, we encourage you to join a session.

Each session will be limited to a maximum of 20 participants. If you cannot attend one of these workshops, don’t worry. There will be more sessions in the new academic year.
