Open Meeting on 6 June - Collections for the future: why?
23 May 2007
Professor David Gordon on the role of the library, museum and gallery in the digital age
Universities, from the earliest times, have made collections: of books, of objects of interest and curiosity, and of works of art. Why? In particular, in this digital age, are such collections important?
The Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery are developing their medium term strategy, and the refurbishment of the John Rylands Library in Deansgate has recently been completed. It is an opportune moment to examine why a great university needs a great library, museum and gallery, and to discuss their future role.
On Wednesday 6 June, Professor David Gordon, Vice-President, will host an Open Meeting for staff on the above topic, beginning with a short presentation and then answering related questions from members of the audience.
The Open Meeting will take place between 1pm and 2pm in Lecture Theatre 2 in Crawford House - building number 33 on:
Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
