Supporting our colleagues with the Real Living Wage

21 Mar 2022

Our University has committed to the increased Real Living Wage rate

John_Owens_spring_view

We are proud to inform colleagues that from 1 February 2022 our University will be paying the increased Living Wage rate of £9.90 per hour (up from £9.50 per hour) to colleagues who are:

  • On spinal points 4 and 5 of Grade 1 of the 51 point salary scale;
  • On points 39 and 40 of the casual staff pay scale;
  • University catering staff on points 1 and 2 of the UMC pay scale.

Our University was accredited by the Living Wage Foundation in 2019, which means that colleagues are paid wages which meet living costs, not just the Government’s Minimum Wage

Our commitment to paying the increased Real Living Wage rate recognises the importance of helping people to lead rewarding and fulfilling lives, both in and outside of work. We also offer a leading package of benefits that includes pensions, discount schemes, generous annual leave entitlement and wellbeing support.

Updated rates of pay

People and OD Operations will update the pay of relevant colleagues automatically and we have updated our pay scales on StaffNet to reflect this change. Pay will be backdated to 1 February and will be processed in time for March payslips.

Completing paperwork or timesheet claims

If you are a manager of staff who this change applies to, please remember to use the updated pay scales when completing paperwork like Post Contract Management Forms, New Appointment Forms and Casual Worker Forms.

Timesheet claims for casual workers for work undertaken after 1 February 2022, if not submitted already, should be submitted separated from claims for work undertaken before that date.
