Fundraising for Ukraine

Volunteering for World Central Kitchen

Suzanne Davies in the Humanities Finance Team is travelling with her husband Gwil to Przemsyl on the Poland/Ukraine border on Friday to carry out volunteer work preparing and serving hot meals to refugees entering Poland from Ukraine. They have set up a fundraising page for World Central Kitchen, who they are volunteering for. WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. The charity has already served thousands of freshly cooked meals to Ukrainian refugees.

  • Suzanne and Gwil are funding their own travel and accommodation costs and all money raised will go directly to World Central Kitchen.

Cycling for Ukraine

Media Relations Officer Joe Stafford will cycle the 1400km Ronde van Nederland route in less than two weeks - Joe says it will be a mammoth undertaking for someone who has only ever done one 80km charity bike race in the past! He adds: "The days will be long - at least 100km each - and the headwinds in Holland can be brutal, but I had to do something to help the Ukrainian people somehow."

Joe is raising funds for UK-Med, a charity based at our University that provides healthcare assistance during humanitarian crises around the world. A UK-Med team has flown to Poland to meet potential partners, understand more about the refugee health needs on the Polish border, and discuss how it can support the emerging health emergency triggered by the conflict. The charity is now also providing support in Ukraine by embedding its surgical team into overwhelmed hospitals.
