Plagiarism: fostering a culture of academic integrity

With Plagiarism Prevention Day approaching on 19 February, get involved in the conversation and share best practice
Back in September our University announced that it had signed up to the Academic Integrity Charter. This was launched by the Quality Assurance Agency in recognition of the fact that today’s interconnected online world makes malpractice easier than ever – whether intentional or unintentional. Our response must be holistic, encompassing prevention and detection.
Our University’s approach is one of campaign and train: campaign to raise awareness about the various forms of academic malpractice, while also fostering discussions around ethical practice. This is supported by hands-on skills development including information literacy, critical thinking, note-making and referencing along with methods for integrating this into the ways we teach, support and assess learning.
The International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI)’s Plagiarism Prevention Day on 19 February provides an opportunity to consider what we can do as individuals.
