Staff benefits and wellbeing update
10 Feb 2022
As it’s Payroll Giving Week we are focussing on our nationally commended payroll giving scheme.
A monthly gift of £10 from your take-home pay to your chosen charity will be automatically boosted to £12.50 for a 20% rate tax payer and £16.66 for a 40% rate tax payer. This means your charity receives your donation, but also the amount that you’d normally pay in tax at no extra cost to you. Giving this way helps your charity receive regular financial support and helps smaller charities in particular, as many do not have the resource to claim back Gift Aid.
It's simple to sign up and you an commit from £1 per month to your favourite charity.
Your giving via the Payroll Giving Scheme during the past 12 months has been exceptional with over £145,627.55 being donated to great causes during these exceptional times.
The most popular charities by number of donors are:
- Shelter
- Oxfam
- Unicef
- WaterAid
- Cancer Research UK
- The Christie
- Save the Children
Fabienne Clough, Regional Community Fundraiser (Greater Manchester) of Shelter sent a message of thanks at the end of 2021:
"On behalf of everyone here at Shelter and everyone who accesses our services across Greater Manchester, I want to say a massive thank you to every staff member choosing to support Shelter through payroll giving. The £6,111.28 you have donated this year means that we have been able to continue our vital services during a turbulent time for many people. To put that into context, one call to our Targeted Advice Service costs roughly £15, meaning your donations could cover the cost of support for over 407 people! Together you have changed the lives of 407 people and joined us in the Fight For Home. Thank you again for all your continued support!"
