Consultancy – a first step to something incredible

14 Feb 2022

University launches our new consultancy service to make it quicker and easier for colleagues who want to make an impact

University of Manchester

The University is launching our new consultancy service to help our researchers and staff get involved in real life challenges and have an impact on society.

Consultancy is an important and effective way for staff at our University to share their expertise and knowledge with external clients across public, private and charitable sectors, while increasing their experience and involvement in real world challenges.

Our dedicated Consultancy Services Team within the Business Engagement team replaces Faculty-based services, making it quicker and easier for staff to consult.

The new process and operational framework for consultancy launches in the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) today (Monday, 14 February). It will launch in the two other Faculties later this Spring.

Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research said: “Consultancy is very often the first step to something incredible.

“Many of our most significant research collaborations started with a small piece of consultancy work. Consultancy is an ideal means for a client to test out the academic and their institute, build a relationship, and develop trust between everyone. Consultancy is also a means for translating research into impact as a follow on from a research project, for example in policy advisory roles to international agencies.

“You’ll get real life challenges and experiences, see your work make an impact, all while building collaborations and generating ideas and resources to support your research.

“A huge amount of engagement with colleagues has fed into the design and planning of this new consultancy service and I’m excited and confident that this will make it easier for more academics and researchers to undertake consultancy as part of their research and impact activity.”
