02 Feb 2022

We're looking for members to join our Nature Action Group

What we do

The Nature Action Group provides advice to our University on issues relating to the natural environment including biodiversity, health and wellbeing and resilience to climate change.  It is also responsible for overseeing the development of a partnership programme to engage staff, students, alumni and other communities in responsible schemes to support proven natural solutions that enhance biodiversity, mitigate the effects of climate change and restore the natural world.

Join us as a group member

We are seeking to establish a database of members and their expertise, interests and networks to support and enable the University to achieve its nature and biodiversity objectives across the following areas:

  • Nature-based solutions to the climate crisis
  • Biodiversity monitoring and assessment
  • Urban green space
  • Accounting for biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • Health, wellbeing and the natural environment
  • Local, national and international environmental restoration projects
  • Community engagement with nature
  • Management of campus green spaces

What you need to do as a group member

Group members are expected to:

  • Join in relevant discussion when called upon
  • Help the University develop and achieve our biodiversity objectives
  • Identify and support student engagement/projects where appropriate
  • Challenge for continual improvement
  • Spend no more than 10 hours of work in any given year
  • Participation will not be remunerated or work loaded
  • Membership will be reviewed annually

Strategy

In 2022 a new Environmental Sustainability Strategy will be published that will include the University’s nature and biodiversity objectives and targets.  The Nature Action Group will support, advise and guide development and implementation, reporting progress through the agreed governance structure.
