Student Volunteering Week: Help us reach 15,000 volunteer hours!
01 Feb 2022
This year it will run from Monday, 7 February until Sunday, 13 February
After last year’s online programme, Student Volunteering Week is returning with a jam-packed schedule of volunteering events and we want YOU to be part of the action! Spread the love for volunteering and discover how to get involved with the celebrations:
1. Help us reach 15,000 volunteer hours
As a key focus of Student Volunteering Week, help us encourage all students to take part in activities and log their volunteering on Volunteer Hub to reach a target of 15,000 hours. Throughout the week, the Students’ Union will have a totalizer on display to count-up the hours and show the difference our student volunteers are having in the community.
2. Organise a walking bus for Big Volunteer Day
Work in a student-facing role? Support students to access Big Volunteer Day by organising a walking bus:
- Decide on a suitable time and meeting point for your students (it’s a drop-in session, so you don’t need to arrive at 10am)
- Email Debbie Houghton with details of your walking bus and borrow a hi-vis vest
- Promote the walking bus to your students through social media and newsletters
- Recruit other staff to help you manage your walking bus
- Print some signage so students can easily find your meeting point
- Join us at Big Volunteer Day (anytime 10am-3pm) – our base for the event will be at the junction of Ossory Street and Great Southern Street (M14 4BX) and we’ll have a cup of tea ready for you!
3. Give our student volunteers a shout out
Know some amazing student volunteers? Give a shout out to any students who’ve volunteered this year by tagging our social media channels @uomvolunteering and using the hashtag #SVW2022.
