Information for staff about the Manchester Leadership Programme
Dear Colleague
Student registration for the 2007/08 Manchester Leadership Programme (MLP) is now open and students will have received an email telling them about the MLP and advising them how to register their interest.
The MLP comprises two elements; a credit-rated Leadership in Action unit and 60 hours voluntary work. Students who complete both elements achieve the Manchester Leadership Award.
Over the past months we have consulted a wide range of staff in schools and faculties to find out how we can make the MLP available to as many students as possible.
As a result of these discussions the Leadership in Action unit will be available in 2007/08 as a 10 credit unit that will run in Semester 1 and again in Semester 2, and also as a 20 credit unit that will run across both semesters. The unit is timetabled in Semester 1 for Tuesday 4pm - 5.45pm and in Semester 2 for Thursday 3pm - 5pm. An online version of the 10 credit unit will also be available in Semester 2.
With the approval of their Programme Directors, a small number of students may be able to take the 10 credit unit for additional credits.
Please note that the Leadership in Action units are ONLY suitable for students who are also committed to undertaking the voluntary work.
Also note that there is no charge to Schools for their students who are on the MLP.
331 students from all faculties took part in this year's MLP and their feedback has been very positive. The MLP has also been warmly welcomed by employers and we hope it will give Manchester students a winning edge in a competitive graduate recruitment market.
In 2007/08 we are offering 500 places on the MLP. Despite offering more places this year it is possible that the MLP will be oversubscribed. Could we therefore ask colleagues to encourage their students to register their interest in the MLP as soon as possible at:
