Dr Alexander Gardner-McTaggart appointed UMW academic theme lead

02 Feb 2022

A message from Professor Danielle George, Associate Vice President for Blended and Flexible Learning

Professor Danielle George

I am delighted to announce that Dr Alexander Gardner-McTaggart, Lecturer in Educational Leadership at the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE), will be joining the Flexible Learning team as academic theme lead for University of Manchester Worldwide (UMW).

Over the past four years UMW has been exploring off campus learning – through overseas delivery in-person and online – for those who aren’t able to travel to Manchester to study.

We now want to build on the success of UMW in further developing our thinking in our blended and flexible learning offer and I’m so pleased that Alex has joined us to drive this forward. He specialises in educational leadership and globalising education, making him a perfect fit for this role.

Alex is the Programme Director for the MIE/UMW MA in Educational Leadership in Practice (ELiP) and recently received the University’s ‘Best Humanities programme award 2021’ for this course.

Alex is also Associate Editor of the leading scholarly journal Educational Management Administration and Leadership (EMAL) and Research Interest Group Convenor for Leadership in Comparative and International Education through the British Educational Leadership Management Administration Society (BELMAS).

In his role as programme director, Alex built the MA ELiP to a full programme that is delivered transnationally via the University’s international centres and online.

In all of his work at our University Alex has championed this innovative approach and our ability to generate impact, build global bridges and have a positive impact on our planet through education.

Alex brings a wealth of experience and exciting ideas for the future of our flexible and blended learning offer, and I’m thrilled that he is joining the Flexible Learning team.
