Dear colleagues,

Our University’s guidelines for researchers and research-related PS colleagues remain consistent with pre-Christmas arrangements.

Research activity, including postgraduate research projects, will continue subject to the risk assessment and other arrangements set out in the Research FAQs on StaffNet.

These FAQs have been checked to ensure they are fully up-to-date and will continue to be checked in light of all new information, and we’ll keep you informed of any changes.

It is possible that higher rates of staff absence during the current wave of the pandemic will have an impact on our ability to ensure full availability of all infrastructure for research, including normal opening of buildings and facilities. Faculties will work with our Campus Management Group to manage any arising issues in accordance with their existing plans for such eventualities and again, you will be kept informed.

In the meantime, we ask you to please continue to observe COVID safety measures:

  • We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and/or have their booster vaccination.
  • Lateral flow tests are readily available for all staff and students from catering outlets. We strongly encourage you to use these twice a week. If you test positive you should isolate and if symptomatic, confirm with a PCR test.
  • Face coverings remain mandatory on campus. There are very few reasons why someone may not be able to wear a face covering. If you think you are medically exempt then you must arrange to speak to Occupational Health so that we can make alternative provisions for you.
  • Single-use face coverings and hand sanitiser are available throughout campus. Please use the disposable face coverings provided instead of reusable cloth face coverings as they are more effective.

Finally, we’d like to thank colleagues once again for their perseverance and patience as we continue to work during this period and wish them a happy, healthy 2022.

Best wishes,

Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research

Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice President for Social Responsibility and Chair of the Campus Management Group
