Thank you for your Payroll Giving Donations
30 Nov 2021
Today is Giving Tuesday the international day of giving and we wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for all your donations via our Payroll Giving Scheme.
This #GivingTuesday we are happy to announce that your giving during the past 12 months has been exceptional with over £145,627.55 being donated to great causes via our Payroll Giving Scheme. This is a phenomenal during these difficult times and is the highest 12-month total since the payroll giving scheme relaunched in 2014.
Dr Julian Skyrme, Director of Social Responsibility, said: “As an annual antidote to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we’re pleased to support the national Giving Tuesday campaign. This year we’ve curated a range of opportunities for everyone in our University community to support good causes through their time or money. It’s also an opportunity to acknowledge the incredible record-breaking levels of giving our staff made in 2021 through our Payroll Giving Scheme, which allows colleagues to direct money before tax to their chosen causes”
The most popular charities being supported by you the past 12 months include:
- Shelter
- Oxfam
- Unicef
- Wateraid
- Cancer Research UK
- Save the Children
- RSPCA
- Macmillan Cancer Support
- Street Support Network
- NSPCC
The charity with the most donations by value in the past 12 months was Oxfam and the most popular charity by number of donors was Shelter.
Oxfam has sent a wonderful message of thanks to you all for donations that totalled £11,749.32 in the past 12 months! They also added that they wanted you to know that they "sincerely appreciate the kindness of your staff this year, and hope this will help them realize the impact of their donations to Oxfam!"
Fabienne Clough, Regional Community Fundraiser (Greater Manchester) of Shelter has sent a message of thanks:
“On behalf of everyone here at Shelter and everyone who accesses our services across Greater Manchester, I want to say a massive thank you to every staff member choosing to support Shelter through payroll giving. The £6,111.28 you have donated this year means that we have been able to continue our vital services during a turbulent time for many people. To put that into context, one call to our Targeted Advice Service costs roughly £15, meaning your donations could cover the cost of support for over 407 people! Together you have changed the lives of 407 people and joined us in the Fight For Home. Thank you again for all your continued support!”
Payroll Giving is a tax efficient as it boosts your donations at no extra cost to you and donating via your pay also helps small charities in particular to receive the full benefit of a donation, as most don’t have the resource to reclaim Gift Aid.
