Re-write Cancer on #GivingTuesday
30 Nov 2021
Last year, over 6,500 alumni, staff, students and friends made generous gifts to support The University of Manchester, raising an incredible £660,000.
And we are touched by how many of you have chosen to support students and research by making gifts to our appeals, or providing generous regular support through direct debit donations or payroll giving. Thank you!
During these past twelve turbulent months you’ve kindly supported the University’s own research into stroke - raising more than £110,000 and funding a new doctoral researcher who’ll focus on finding a breakthrough treatment for this devastating disease.
You’ve also helped hundreds of students from less advantaged backgrounds say ‘yes’ to their world-class Manchester education, by providing over £150,000 for scholarships and other financial support. Nana Fredua Agyeman - last year’s Students’ Union Postgraduate Officer - composed a special poem to say ‘thank you’. You can watch the spoken word poem ‘Power of a Pound’, that was made just for you.
Right now, we’re inviting our university community to support our appeal to create a world-leading new cancer centre. Back in 2017 a catastrophic fire took place at the Paterson building, where most of Manchester’s cancer research took place. It was a huge setback. Now, along with our partners Cancer Research UK and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, our ambition is to rebuild – and it’ll be even bigger and better than before.
The Re-write Cancer appeal is an amazing opportunity for us all to make a lasting difference to the future of cancer research. And hundreds of you have already joined in, making gifts with your characteristic generosity. We are all so grateful. If you’d like to help build Manchester’s life-saving centre, you can learn more, watch the appeal video and make a gift of your own at www.manchester.ac.uk/cancerappeal.
Thank you.
