Enter or nominate for a Making a Difference Award

The Making a Difference Awards are back open for entries and ready to celebrate the achievements of our staff, students, alumni and external partners. The eight award categories acknowledge the difference people are making in their communities and beyond, covering many different types of social responsibility projects and activities. If you, your team or someone you know has made a difference, the deadline for applications is January 17 2022.

Last year's winners include projects documenting the impact of the pandemic on the lives of people across the UK; engaging young people to celebrate the diverse heritage of South Asian history and culture; innovative learning courses equipping and empowering students to take action for sustainable development; and many more.

Take a look at the statements from our previous winners and highly commended recipients to see how receiving a Making a Difference Award has given them a boost to continue tackling issues they feel passionate about, shone a spotlight on the impact their work has had and inspired further funding opportunities.

Nalin Thakkar, Vice-President for Social Responsibility spoke of his excitement for the Awards:

"Our Making a Difference Awards are one of the University's key events to celebrate the positive impact our staff, students, alumni and external partners are making. As always, I look forward to seeing the wide range of contributions from the University community that our Awards highlight and recognise. I encourage you all to nominate someone who is making a real difference to the lives of others or the environment, whether that be your colleagues, students, or even a self-nomination!""

All shortlisted nominees will be invited to a high-profile awards ceremony in May 2022 to receive their Award and celebrate their commitment and dedication. The ceremony offers a platform for entrants to raise awareness of their work and celebrate their impressive achievements.

Important information:

  • Deadline for entries is 17 January 2022.
  • Candidates can self-nominate or be nominated by a third party.
  • Entries can be submitted through the social responsibility website.
  • Printed entry forms are available from the Office for Social Responsibility, 186 Waterloo Place, Oxford Road or by calling: 0161 306 3059.
  • Individuals and teams can enter.
