IP Policy update and overview

23 Nov 2021

An overview of our recently-updated IP Policy

IP Policy

Independent reports over many years show that research commercialisation makes a significant beneficial contribution to the UK's entrepreneurial activities and job creation. It also has wider benefits by creating positive social and economic impacts and environmental advantages across the globe.

From spin-out companies and licensing to student start-up companies and business engagement, a thorough understanding and effective management of intellectual property (IP) rights are fundamental to the success of these endeavours. Our University was a pioneer in the field and continues to play a leading role in it. Even in the more recent challenging times, our University has achieved record performances in IP commercialisation, including the work by our Innovation Factory and the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre.

Our IP Policy is reviewed and updated from time to time to reflect the present-day climate for business and enterprise on campus and in the wider business environment and it was last reviewed and published earlier this year. The policy text has since been refined a few times to improve its clarity in respect of our University's approach and to make it more easily read and understandable.
