Ever thought about becoming a school governor?

A number of local schools are looking to recruit new governors

The schools below are looking for new governors to join their team. By becoming a school governor you will be able to join The University of Manchester School Governor Initiative, which consist of more than 200 staff members who share the same passion for supporting pupils and schools. 

  • William Hulmes’s Grammar School is a very diverse school in terms of social background and ethnicity and has a high number of SEND and PP pupils. For more information please contact Peter Mullholland peter.mulholland@whgs-academy.org
  • St James' Catholic High School, Cheadle has a vacancy for a Foundation Governor. St James’ is a good oversubscribed school (OFSTED 2017) located in Stockport, South of Manchester with 800 students and 100 staff. St James’ Catholic High School is a thriving Catholic community that places children at the centre of everything they do. The Diocese of Shrewsbury judged the school to be an “Outstanding” Catholic school. Governors play a strategic role in the school’s development. Governors need to be willing to work as part of a team, read papers, attend meetings and ask constructive questions. There is training available from the Local Authority and the Diocese. This vacancy is open to Catholics who are not parents of children currently attending the school. Governors are appointed for a four-year term of office, which can be renewed.   • St John’s and St Chrysostom’s Primary Schools. They are located in Plymouth Grove and Longsight close to campus so offer an opportunity to contribute to our local community.  They are looking for three governors and are particularly interested in someone with experience of engineering and the built environment/sustainability.  They are also looking to increase the diversity of their governing body in terms of age profile, so would like to find at least one younger governor (under 30).  Please contact Miranda Hall, Vice Chair miranda.hall@manchester.ac.uk
