10th RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film - 27 June to 2 July

Bringing together anthropologists, film-makers and members of the public
The 10th RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film will be jointly hosted by the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology (School of Social Sciences) and the Centre for Screen Studies (School of Arts, Histories and Cultures) at The University of Manchester, 27 June - 2 July 2007. It will involve some 45 hours of screenings of new films and a major international conference, plus other ancillary events.
A particular objective of the 10th edition will be to bring together not only academic anthropologists and professional film-makers from all over the world, but also members of the general public, particularly those from Manchester and the Northwest of England.
The festival will consist of:
- Over 70 new films shortlisted for various prizes and special screenings
- Special programme of Chinese films
- 2007 Forman Lecture sponsored by ITV Granada
- Various panels and workshops (Visualizing Childhood, Anthropology on Television, Visual Anthropology in Latin America, Revisiting and Recontextualizing Archival Films etc.)
- Conference: Beyond Text? Image - Sound - Object: Synaesthetic and Sensory Practices in Anthropology, 30 June - July
Registration fees will be from £49 for the Screenings days of the Festival and from £79 for the Conference days, with the lowest rates being offered for early registration.
Concessionary rates are offered for registered students, unemployed, pensioners and all permanent residents of the North West of England.
