Biology, Medicine and Health partners with Boots in successful BBSRC bid
20 Oct 2021
The Faculty is the Associate Partner in a successful 5-year BBSRC Collaborative Training Partnership for PhD studentships led by Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA).
The FBMH WBA partnership is one of ten successful collaborations that will share the £22.5M awarded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). The full list of the partnerships is available on the BBSRC website and includes 29 businesses and 12 academic research organisations from a diverse range of sectors.
The award follows a panel interview earlier in the year attended by Dr Jeff Penny, the Faculty’s Associate Dean for Postgraduate Research, and colleagues from WBA, which received extremely positive feedback.
Mike Bell, WBA Head of Science Research, R&D Global Brands Operations commented: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to partner with the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health in this important BBSRC-funded programme that will develop high calibre doctoral scientists in skin health. This represents an excellent opportunity to build further on the strong, long-standing successful relationship we have together."
In the same funding round, a BBSRC Collaborative Training Partnership led by Unilever PLC was also successful, and this will offer the opportunity for the Faculty to work more closely on collaborative PhD research projects with industrial colleagues at Unilever.
In the coming months, further information will be shared as plans are further developed in terms of opportunities for colleagues to collaborate. In the meantime, any queries can be direct to Dr Jeffrey Penny.
