Widening Participation Fellow Recruitment 2021/22

Paid fellowships to develop and deliver a range of activities to inspire and engage school and college students from across Greater Manchester and beyond
We aim to widen participation to higher education from low participation groups by showcasing university as a real opportunity for everyone.
Our Fellows support us by developing and delivering presentations and workshops promoting HE study to pupils in high priority Widening Participation schools and colleges.
Over the past year we’ve evolved our output to support schools and colleges unable to attend campus or receive visitors and have built up a bank of online resources that covers a wide range of disciplines.
We are looking for PhD students in the following disciplines to join our existing team of WP Fellows:
- Engineering
- Medicine
- Psychology
Applicants will be flexible and creative with a willingness to create academic enrichment resources that can be provided virtually as well as face-to-face in a classroom.
Positions are open to non-final year PhD students in the relevant discipline areas and intercalating medics.
Roles and Responsibilities
WP Fellows are expected to contribute in various ways to the development and delivery of a wide range of events and resources for young people, their parents, carers and teachers including:
- Subject taster workshops and lectures;
- Academic Study Skills e.g. essay writing, research skills;
- Student Life activities, teaching and learning at university;
- School and college careers events;
- Delivering “Why Study” talks in Schools/Colleges
- Developing resources and delivering online sessions.
