The School of Computer Science at The University of Manchester, in partnership with Microsoft, would like to invite you to the Microsoft Security Lecture 2007.

Manchester Computing is delighted to announce the visit of Ed Gibson, head of security for Microsoft. He shall be giving a lecture on his experiences and views on security in the IT world and ways in which to combat organised crime on the internet.
Synopsis
Despite the mutating threats of cyber attacks, on line extortion, or spam , a well-structured information security strategy can safeguard any business and ensure that risks are managed with commitment and understanding. It can also help to reinforce trust and reassurance amongst customers. Because the internet is not territorial or jurisdictionally bound, organised crime and efforts to steal in the on line world are quite often greeted with 'attack', which is not always the most effective response. However, there are solutions - and sometimes they are free. Ed Gibson will provide you with anecdotes from his 20 years of service with the FBI, including the most recent five years, when he was assigned as a diplomat to the US Embassy in London where he is in charge of all the FBI's cyber investigations within the UK.
Ed Gibson
Mr Gibson's primary role is to serve as an advisor to Microsoft's customers and the public, regarding the work Microsoft is doing to improve security of its products. Whilst assigned to the FBI headquarters, in Washington DC, Mr Gibson developed and managed an operational training program for all special agents and executive management in money laundering and asset confiscation investigations. His leadership resulted in the creation of a model cyber program adopted by all legal attaché offices around the world.
