Spotlight on: BAME staff network group
06 Oct 2021
As October is Black History Month, this month we highlight our BAME staff network group
The theme for October in the Diversity Calendar concentrates on Black History Month. It is also an opportunity for us all to understand what action still needs to be taken to address under representation for our BAME staff.
We have a very active BAME Staff Network and they have for years put on awareness raising events, promoted race equality and influenced our University in many important policy decisions.
They welcome all staff from all intersections of the BAME community (for example disabled, LGBT, religious) and are keen to explore how they can support these communities.
You can read more about their aims, activities and how to become more involved:
The Group have an excellent event planned for 13 October - you can find out more:
If you would like the Zoom background, please mail equalityanddiversity@manchester.ac.uk
And many of the members contribute to the Race Equality Chartermark – the University currently holds a Bronze Award. If you would like to know more about the REC, then there is more information here:
Remember that staff network groups are open to anyone regardless of any equality group and so we hope you find one or more that you can participate in.
