Black History Month events

For Black History Month this year, the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Centre has an exciting programme of in-person events as well as planned staff and guest blogs, reading lists and playlists

  • GM Black History Month launch event

Manchester Cathedral /online 6.30- 9.00 pm, Thursday 30 September.

  • 1981 – The Year Moss Side Exploded! 

Black History Workshops for ages 13-18 years.  1.30pm- 4.30pm  every Saturday throughout October at four Manchester Libraries. 

  • Black History is World History

Educational Sessions for Adults (in partnership with Manchester Libraries) every Wednesday throughout October, 5.30pm - 7.30pm  at Central Library.

  • And We Rise; Together

An intergenerational informal sharing afternoon with Young Identity Poets and some of Manchester’s African-Caribbean 60+ community groups who have been working together to reminisce, share stories and create spoken pieces. Thursday 28 October , 1.30pm-3.30 pm at Central Library. 

  • ‘I Predict a Riot’ 

A 2-part documentary screening in partnership with North West Film Archives. Thursday 28 October, 3.30pm-5.00pm at Central Library.  

  • ‘Still A Slave’

Nathan Geering’s  critically acclaimed short filmscreening in partnership with Manchester Libraries. A live lecture delivered by Nathan himself followed by an audience Q&A. Thursday 28 October, 5.00pm-7.00pm at Central Library.
