Student-founded foodbank calling on Mancunian Changemakers to donate and shape new conversations about inequalities in the city
Manchester Central Foodbank, founded by University of Manchester students in 2013 as the UK's first student-led foodbank, is inviting Mancunians, including students and staff, to join a Changemaker Meet-Up at Hatch (103 Oxford Road) from 7pm on Thursday 30 September.
The price of entry on the door is one tin of food, which will be distributed by the Foodbank to support friends, family, and neighbours in the city in the coming months.
The evening, organised in collaboration with Manchester community arts organisation Get It Done, will see performances from two local live music acts and a DJ and Changemakers will be able to take part in a range of creative activities, including placard-making, giving personal reflections on the testimonies of foodbank users, and get the chance to re-design Piccadilly Gardens.
The activities and event revolves around the Foodbank's campaign to platform the voices of foodbank users, to challenge stereotypes and create new conversations about poverty and inequalities in the city, part of the Can You Hear Me Now project which received seed funding in 2020 from the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures' Engaging Our Communities fund.
The Foodbank is keen for staff to share the details with colleagues, students, and friends to bring as many potential Changemakers together in one place.
