Changes to the way we advertise staff roles to reflect flexible working
01 Sep 2021
A message from Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources
Dear colleagues
We’re listening carefully to what our staff are telling us about the benefits of flexible working through our recent pulse survey and as a result have updated our Flexible Working Policy.
A significant change to this policy is that all staff roles at our University are now eligible for flexible working from day one of employment. We believe this change will enhance our existing employment package and appeal to a wider and more diverse community of potential applicants.
To reflect this we are assuming that all replacement and new staff roles at our University will be eligible for flexible working unless the recruiting manager can provide a statutory reason why not.
We will therefore include the following strapline in all job advertisements from Wednesday, 1 September onwards:
- Our University is positive about flexible working – you can find out more.
Hybrid working arrangements during the Professional Services pilot will be agreed informally between managers and individuals/teams and do not constitute a change to an employee’s terms and conditions so do not need to be submitted through the flexible working request process.
I’m sure you will join me in supporting this important change and if you have any further questions about flexible working please speak with your HR Partner.
Best wishes
Karen Heaton, Director of Human Resources
