Get inspired by nature at Manchester Museum this summer
23 Jul 2021
Families and adults can enjoy a season of events themed around the natural world at Manchester Museum this summer
People’s perceptions of the natural world changed during pandemic and now that COVID-19 restrictions are easing, the Museum wants to remind people how important green spaces and wildlife are to wellbeing.
The series of events, titled Force of Nature, will run from 26 July – 29 August and celebrate the museum’s incredible collection of over 4.5 million objects, including live frogs and lizards, plants, insect specimens, and Stan the T-rex.
Highlights include nature-inspired upcycling workshops for families and adults, guided online craft sessions from paper flower making to origami, and a comic creation workshop.
Visitors can also experience We Are Nature, two immersive sound and art installations in the galleries that provide creative responses to the question: ‘How does nature make you feel?’
Esme Ward, Director of Manchester Museum, said: “During lockdown, our connection to the natural world was given a renewed sense of importance, as many of us sought out green spaces as a place of sanctuary and calm. Force of Nature celebrates the beauty and joy we find in nature and also reminds us that if we continue to love, value and care for it, we can build a more sustainable world.”
The Museum is open Wednesday – Sunday from 10am –5pm. On Wednesday and Fridays priority tickets are available between 10am -11am for those who need to visit at a quieter time.
All events are free and ticketed and need to be booked in advance.
