Join security guards on a Museum tour

21 Jul 2021

While on their night shift, three security guards will walk through the galleries and reflect on the Museum collections

HUNGER

Join us for a livestream of HUNGER from Manchester Museum on Thursday 22 July between 6pm–7pm.

HUNGER is a unique, site-specific, filmed performance piece created by international artists Abas Eljanabi, Farjana Kabir and Louison Kangombe at Manchester Museum, responding to the museum’s collections.

The event features a Q&A with the artists.

Join three security guards during their night shift at Manchester Museum…

They wander through the galleries and reflect on how the museum’s collections of African, Asian, and European objects connect with their life experiences, their migration to the UK, and their lives here now.

They ask challenging questions:

"What are the hidden histories in the Museum?"

"Who owns history?"

"How do the Museum’s artefacts resonate with today’s global politics?"

“Are empires built, or are they taken?”

So, put on your seat belts and travel across history and the world as it is now.

Bon voyage!

HUNGER is a collaboration between Lead Artist, Abas Eljanabi, Community Arts North West (CAN), Manchester Museum, and Manchester City of Literature.

HUNGER was produced by Remi Adefeyisan and Stella Barnes from CAN and filmed by Clive Hunte, with sound recorded by Gawain Forster assisted by Clive Hunte. The project is funded by Arts Council England.
