Combine language learning with cultural experience in China
Have you been thinking of going to China for a holiday, but not keen on a package holiday? Have you been learning Chinese and looking for opportunities to use what you have learned in real scenarios?
The Confucius Institute is pleased to offer you a unique programme, in which you visit two of the most important cities: Beijing and Shanghai, experience the daily life of the local people as well as learn Chinese. For the language learning, you will be taught by the most experienced language teachers in one of the most renowned institutions in China - Beijing Normal University. For the cultural experience, you will see and feel how people lived their lives in the ancient lanes and how people now live in the countryside as well as tasting the authentic cultural life: tea drinking, acrobatics, and the Beijing opera. A trip to Shanghai takes you to the cosmopolitan city, where you can witness the impact of globalisation on the city and people's life. In addition, you have plenty of free time to explore places of interest such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace in Beijing, which has been the country's capital for over 700 years.
The trip will be for three weeks, departing from Manchester on Saturday 30 June and returning on Friday 20 July.
If you wish to go on the summer language programme and have no knowledge of Mandarin, we recommend you take the beginners' course in preparation. However, this is not a pre-requisite.
The next block of Chinese (Mandarin) language courses will begin from 16 April. Courses will be run at beginner, lower intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced levels and are open to University staff and students, and the general public. Courses can be taken in 6 or 10 week blocks and are taught over one evening a week at advanced and upper intermediate level and two evenings a week at beginner and lower intermediate level. Discounts are available to University staff and students.
