University group to showcase their colourful designs by decorating a city centre tree
Members of In Stitches have been knitting, stitching, crocheting and crafting up a storm to make colourful squares, flowers, birds and bees in readiness for the Manchester Flower Show, which runs from Saturday 29 May to Sunday 6 June.
The group will decorate a tree outside Marks & Spencer on Market Street with their work this Friday, 28 May.
The art of yarn bombing, also known as guerilla knitting, is a type of graffiti or street art that uses colourful displays of knitting instead of paint or chalk.
Diane Bennett, a coordinator of In Stitches, said, “A few of us will be in Manchester on the Friday morning decorating the tree. We’re really looking forward to it – we really enjoyed yarn bombing the Coronation Street tour a few years ago.”
In Stitches, the knitting and stitching group for staff at The University of Manchester, have been meeting weekly on Zoom over the past year.
