Voting has ended and the results are in
The winners of the University’s Social Justice Photography Competition have been revealed as part of the online Volunteer of the Year Awards.
The competition asked students to submit a photo and caption to raise awareness of a social justice issue that matters to them. Despite the pandemic, we received over 100 entries, making it a record-breaking year for the competition.
A shortlist of four photos went to a vote through Instagram and Facebook, and within a week, over 4,500 votes were collected. The competition has engaged thousands of people with the social justice issues highlighted by the student entries.
Prize winners
- Grand Prize: £400 – ‘Left Behind’ by Lynda Odoh, School of Social Sciences
- Second Place: £200 – ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ by Matvey Godunov, School of Social Sciences
- Third Place: £100 – ‘Lonely Old Man’ by Xiaojing Huang, School of Social Sciences
- Runner Up: ‘FRACK OFF!’ by Archie Richards, School of Natural Sciences
The competition promotes the Social Justice Challenge, an online activity for students which covers a range of topics such as race, mental health, homelessness and higher education. The deadline to complete the challenge is coming up for all year groups, so please check the website for specific dates.
Finally, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted and helped to make our competition a success.
