Health, fitness and wellbeing benefits and events to save a date
New Be Active classes
The booking links are now live on the Be Active store for the 8 week block from 17th May until the 9th July 2021. There is still a special offer on the zoom classes to get 8 weeks for the cost of 6. The Zoom Pass is excellent value for money if you do more than 3 classes a week at £24.00 or £30.00 then this pass is worth getting!
Virtual Purple Wave
Along with the free Purple Wave monthly challenges our sport team are now starting to prepare for our 2.5k, 5k,10k and half marathon virtual runs, the dates are set, and you can also purchase a badge on completion of this event and a chance to raise money for your favourite charity. Free wellbeing course
The White Rose College Manchester is offering you the opportunity to undertake their fully funded ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Complementary Therapies programme. You will learn basic Body Massage routines, Reflexology and Aromatherapy, including simple meditation techniques, supporting with the demand of day to day life. Complementary Therapies is practiced harmoniously alongside conventional methods of treatment for mental and physical health. The course lasts 15 weeks.
Discounts
One of our discount providers, Teamwalking, have launched Philosophy Walks to provide the opportunity to reflect with others in enjoyable, rewarding and professionally supported thinking. Time is invested in thinking about questions stimulated by the landscape.
Gyms are now opening up and there are a range of ways to save with our fitness UniDiscounts. Swim Now provide adult swimming lessons from private swimming pools around Manchester city centre. They specialise in 1-1 coaching adults for complete beginners and stroke improvers. There are also savings to be made on outdoor gear with Snow + Rock, Nevisport and Cotswold Outdoors if some of your usual clothes may have shrunk during lockdown!
Supporting your health
Don’t forget there is mental health support and wellbeing resources that signpost information on a range of different conditions. These are useful for staff and line managers.
Save a date
Join Dr Warren Mansell, Reader in Clinical Psychology from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, as he introduces the 4Ds approach – an intervention for managing work-related and academic stress. This workshop takes place on 11 May at 10am.
Everyone is invited to join live online for our University’s Making a Difference Awards for Social Responsibility. The awards, which recognise and celebrate the social responsibility achievements of the University’s staff, students, alumni and external partners will be held on Wednesday, 12 May, from 6 - 7:30pm live on YouTube and Facebook.
Competition
Creative Manchester, in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and the Geological Society, is running a Micropoetry competition themed around ‘Space’. The competition runs from Sunday 21 March 2021 and closes on Monday 21 June 2021 at midnight GMT.
