This year's International Women's Day is on Monday, 8 March

There's plenty of events taking place to celebrate International Women's Day, a global campaign to highlight the inequalities and biases faced by women around the world. This year's theme is #ChooseToChallenge.

Faculty of Humanities

Acclaimed actor Maxine Peake will be celebrating both her appointment as Honorary Professor of Literature and Performance and International Women’s Day on 8 March in an 'in conversation' event with Professors Maggie Gale and John McAuliffe. Tickets available via Eventbrite.

The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures is delighted to welcome back four inspirational women graduates on 8 March to discuss their careers in the media, local and national government, and theatre and the arts. Tickets available via Eventbrite.

Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health

Monday, 8 March, 12.30-1.30pm, “It’s all in your head”: The experience of disabled women in higher education’. We welcome guest speaker Dr Nicole Brown who will talk about her research on the experience of disabled, chronically ill and/or neuro-divergent members of higher education staff. Register to attend.

Monday, 8 March, 4pm – 6pm, School of Health Sciences (SHS) event: SHS welcomes four fantastic speakers, all at different stages of their careers to talk about their experiences and accomplishments in relation to this year’s IWD theme, ‘Choose to Challenge’. Register to attend.

Tuesday, 9 March, 1pm-2pm, Centre for Primary Care, this special online seminar will celebrate IWD and the contribution women make to the Centre and Division more widely. Attendees will learn more about IWD, the issues facing women in academia and our University’s commitment to gender equality. Everyone is welcome.

Join the Times Higher Education on Monday, 8 March for an inspirational conversation celebrating women in higher education leadership. More details are available on StaffNet.

You can join in the #ChooseToChallenge social media campaign and show your solidarity by taking a photo of yourself raising your hand high to pledge your support and tagging @FBMH_SR in your photos on Twitter. There's many virtual events taking place worldwide, that are available to access from the International Women's Day website. From Finland to France, Singapore to Switzerland, join networks across the world take part in panel discussions and hear from inspiring female leaders.
