Call for proposals: Learning Through Research Internships 2021
16 Dec 2020
Academic staff are invited to submit their internships proposals by 7 February 2021
Following on from the successful launch of the research internships strand of the Student Experience Internship (SEI) programme in 2018, the Careers Service is pleased to announce that internship proposals are now being accepted for the Learning Through Research Internships programme for 2021.
Designed for non-final year undergraduates, the objective of the Learning Through Research Internships is to provide students with an insight into the work of academic researchers plus an informed understanding of some of the key issues shaping contemporary research.
Additionally, these internships aim to have a high proportion of Widening Participation students (e.g. BAME students, students with disabilities, students from low-income households) participating, helping this group of students in particular to gain an insight to a career that they may not normally have, or consider.
"I gained some extremely valuable insights into how to perform efficient research, mainly being confident in your own ideas and not being afraid to communicate them to people with more experience than you." – Tom, Learning Through Research Intern
Thanks to a merged endowment there is funding to pay the students for a six week internship period during Summer 2021. Students will also be supported through a weekly development programme of workshops organized by the Careers Service.
We are now seeking proposals for Learning Through Research Internships for next summer, aiming for the internships to start in June or July 2021.
To be considered for funding the please submit your proposals by Sunday, 7 February 2021 – to apply please contact Lewis Howells via lewis.howells-2@manchester.ac.uk for further details and a Learning Through Research Internship template for completion.
