UoM Sport: Helping our University community keep active

17 Dec 2020

Since lockdown in March, our UoM Sport team has provided more than 700 Zoom fitness classes

Be Active

Health, Fitness and Wellbeing Coordinator Gail Heathcote-Milner says: "In March, we were all thrown into the world of working from home and new technology which was a bit of a shock for all of us.

"However we rose to the techno challenge and got straight into making fitness videos clips of various activities, from workout challenges to back care.

"We shared lots of clips through social media, YouTube and of course Zoom live classes which have been really great for social interaction and chatting with staff and students."

The Zoom fitness classes have been very well received, and it's been a great way for staff and students to stay socially connected while many of us are still at home. One class participant said: "I live alone and these classes have really kept me going. Not only do they break the day up, they have given me much needed social contact especially during lockdown."

Another said: "In a normal year, the range and quality of classes is high. Over the lockdown period this has continued. There’s been a great mix of classes, from Pilates (essential for mobility as we’re all spending so much time sitting in front of a screen) to cardio and strength and, of course, fun Zoomba!"

If you're looking to stay fit in 2021, or if it's one of your New Year resolutions to get more active, there's plenty to get involved with:
