COVID-19 testing arrangements for students returning in 2021
11 Dec 2020
We're advising students to get tested before they return, and testing arrangements on campus will resume in January
All testing is voluntary, but we are asking students to consider the following options either before they return to campus, or when they arrive.
Testing before return to campus
Students can still access our testing even if they have had a test before they come back, as long as it was negative. We’ve agreed with public health authorities that while at home students can get a PCR test using NHS Test and Trace. On the website they need to select the following option:
- “My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms.”
Testing on campus
As we’ve been doing in December, we’ll be offering tests for all returning students from 4 January 2021.
The slots to book these tests are now live on our website.
Testing takes less than ten minutes for most people, and we recommend students get tested as soon as possible once they return.
International travel
For international students, the current requirement is to quarantine on return. There is more detailed information on the UK Government website, including country-specific rules and how to provide contact details before travel.
After five days of quarantine, those arriving back in the UK can take part in the Government’s Test to Release scheme. This means that travellers can pay for a COVID-19 test, with providers listed on the Government site from 15 December. If the result is negative, no further self-isolation is required. The Government advice is currently after receiving a negative PCR test, two tests can be arranged on campus.
Testing positive and self-isolating
- Everyone should follow national guidance following a postive test by continuing to self-isolate for 10 days and following instructions given by NHS Test and Trace. Students and staff who test positive should report it by using the eForm.
