Students’ Union launches buddy scheme
21 Oct 2020
Peer to peer buddy scheme launched to support students who feel isolated as a result of current COVID-19 restrictions
Right now, many of our students are going through a difficult time, especially those who need to isolate or those who are new to Manchester and are unable to meet many people due to the current restrictions on gatherings and events.
We’ve heard from many of our students who are struggling with isolation and would like more support. We have also had several students get in touch who recognise what other students are going through and who would like to help.
The Students’ Union’s new peer to peer buddy scheme will help provide social support to students who feel isolated. Student who wish to participate in the scheme will be matched with student volunteers for weekly catchups via phone or video call.
Participants and volunteers will be matched based on their hobbies, interests or course, making the scheme a great opportunity for students to make a new friend. Volunteers will also be able to signpost students to Students’ Union and University services should they need them.
For students who want to get involved as a volunteer, full training and support will be provided. Plus, the scheme is a great opportunity for students to develop skills in peer support and counts towards the Stellify make a difference award.
